With the major building boom in Metro Atlanta over the past thirty years, thousands of homeowners have been plagued by the ‘composite siding’ nightmare. There have been several manufacturers of composite siding that were involved in class action lawsuits resulting in compensation to homeowners for their ‘defective siding’. Although the settlements have come and gone, there are still tens of thousands of homes left with the deteriorating siding.
In recent years, the siding industry has seen major advancements in installation methods, as well as product innovation. Most notably, is the invention of concrete fiber siding products. Concrete siding is different than the previous ‘composite’ and ‘particle board’ type materials because it is a non-porous type material that does not retain moisture.
Remember that when comparing general remodeling and siding contractors where the majority of the job cost is in labor, it is often impossible to accurately compare prices. Talk to the contractor in detail about the quality and scope of work that you will be expecting. Many times there will be additional carpentry work to be done while taking on the project. Make sure that you always use a siding contractor that comes very highly recommended, with plenty of references.
